Okay, so let me tell you about my adventure with the Marist women’s tennis team. As you guys know, I’m a big fan of college sports. I love watching them and following them online. So when I saw something about Marist’s tennis program, I got interested. I went down a bit of a rabbit hole, and here’s what I found out.
First, I watched some videos and saw that Marist has 23 Division I varsity teams. That’s a lot of sports! I focused on tennis, though. It seems like a big deal there. They play at the East Campus Tennis Pavilion. I saw some pictures, and it looks like a nice place near the Steel Plant and Allied Health Buildings. I imagine it gets pretty busy with all those matches.
Then I started digging into some of the players. I read about this player named Caterina Assi. The article said she was the MAAC women’s tennis Rookie of the Year. That’s impressive! It made me think about how tough it must be to compete at that level. Another name that popped up was Julia Gabay. The title was a bit of a downer, saying she was the only one to win a singles match in a 6-1 loss. But it also mentioned she played against UNC Wilmington, so maybe it was just a tough day.
I also learned that the team is part of the MAAC. They even had this thing called the MAAC Master’s Tournament. Sounds pretty fancy, right? It seems like they have a pretty packed schedule, especially in the fall. There was this post saying their fall schedule was out and they were starting with the West Point Invite. I made a note of the dates, September 27-29, in case I get a chance to see them play.

My Thoughts
Honestly, it was cool to learn about a college tennis team I hadn’t heard much about before. It gave me a new appreciation for all the work these athletes put in. I think I’ll try to follow their season and maybe even catch a match if I can. It’s always fun to see these young players compete and see who might become the next big star. Plus, it’s a good reminder that there’s a whole world of college sports out there beyond the big-name schools.
I just learned some interesting information about TV viewership. The article said that in 5 out of 7 years, more people watched the women’s final of the U.S. Open than the men’s final. That’s pretty wild! It makes me wonder if women’s tennis is getting more popular. I also saw something about Harvard’s women’s tennis team on Instagram. They’ve won 19 Ivy League Championships! I might have to check them out too. It’s amazing how much is going on in college tennis. I’m glad I stumbled onto this little research project. It’s been a fun way to learn something new and get even more excited about sports. I guess you could say I’m getting even more invested in the world of college athletics!
