Well, let me tell ya about this Huntington Prep basketball roster. You know, them boys who run around and throw the ball in the hoop? Yeah, that’s them. Ain’t got no fancy words for it, just kids playin’ ball.
Now, these kids, they gotta be tall, real tall. Like trees almost. And fast! Gotta run up and down that court like a chicken with its head cut off. They dribble, they pass, they shoot. Sometimes the ball goes in, sometimes it don’t. That’s just how it is.
These boys, they practice a lot. Gotta keep in shape, gotta learn all them plays. Coach tells ’em what to do, and they gotta listen. No goofin’ around, ya hear? Serious business, this basketball.

They do it all day, every day. Practicin’ makes perfect, they say. I dunno about perfect, but they sure get better. Gotta be better to win them games.
And them games, they’re somethin’ else. Folks comin’ from all over to watch. Cheerin’, yellin’, makin’ a big ruckus. Them boys gotta focus, block out all that noise and just play.
They got a fella who brings the ball up the court. He’s gotta be quick, gotta see everything. He passes the ball to his teammates, sets ’em up for shots. He’s like the quarterback, they say. Don’t know much about quarterbacks, but I reckon it’s important.
Then they got them big boys, the ones who play under the basket. They gotta be strong, gotta grab them rebounds. Rebounds, that’s when the ball bounces off the rim and they gotta get it. Important stuff, them rebounds.
And of course, they gotta shoot the ball. Gotta get it in the hoop to score points. Some boys are good shooters, some ain’t. But they all gotta try. Can’t win if ya don’t shoot.
This Huntington Prep team, they’re pretty good, I hear. They win a lot of games. Folks talk about ’em all over. Say they got some real talent on that roster. Talent, that’s what ya need to be good at basketball, I guess.
They got a coach, too. He’s the one in charge. Tells ’em what to do, keeps ’em in line. Gotta have a good coach to win games. He knows all about basketball, knows how to get the best outta them boys.
I see them boys sometimes, runnin’ around, practicin’. They’re young, full of energy. Got dreams, I reckon. Dreams of playin’ in the big leagues, maybe. Who knows what the future holds?
This basketball thing, it’s a big deal for these kids. Gives ’em somethin’ to do, keeps ’em outta trouble. Teaches ’em about teamwork, discipline. Important stuff, that is.
So, there ya have it. That’s all I know about this Huntington Prep basketball roster. Just a bunch of boys playin’ ball, tryin’ to win games. Nothin’ more, nothin’ less.
