Okay, so I’ve been meaning to get into collecting hockey cards, and I figured, why not start with one of the top players right now? Jack Eichel. Here’s how I went about finding and snagging some of his cards.
First Steps: Where to Look?
I started by just, you know, searching around. I hit up a few online places.
- I checked out some online card shops. Seemed like a decent place to start.
- I also looked at general marketplace. You find all sorts of stuff there, so it was worth a shot.
- And I went to some forums and some pages on Reddit.
- I also went to some local card shop near to my home.
Digging Deeper: What to Buy?
Now, I didn’t just want any Jack Eichel card. I wanted some that were, potentially, worth something down the line. That meant looking into rookie cards, autographed cards, and those limited-edition ones.
I learned that the “Young Guns” rookie cards are a pretty big deal. So I definitely kept an eye out for those. I also found out that cards with pieces of game-used jerseys or sticks can be valuable, too.
Making the Purchases
I ended up finding a couple of decent Young Guns cards on online card shop, at a price I thought was fair. I also snagged a cheaper, non-rookie card just to have something else in the collection.
I did see a few autographed cards, but those were way out of my price range for now. Maybe someday!
Protect and Store
Once I got those cards. Immediately, I put each card into a plastic “penny sleeve.”
For better protection, I also put them into a “toploader”.
The Takeaway
Honestly, it was more fun than I expected! It’s like a little treasure hunt. I’m definitely going to keep building my collection, and I’ll probably focus on Eichel for now, since I’ve already got a start. It’s a cool way to connect with the sport, and who knows, maybe some of these cards will actually be worth something someday. But even if they’re not, it’s still a fun hobby.
