Well, let me tell ya ’bout this fella, Jeton Feta. Sounds like a fancy name, don’t it? He’s one of them basketball players, born way back in ’97, April 29th to be exact. Not a big fella, mind you, only 5’10”, but quick as a hiccup, I bet. They call him a point guard, the one who dribbles the ball and passes it around, I reckon. Played for some team called KK Vardar Skopje, over in that North Macedonian place. Don’t ask me where that is, sounds foreign to me. He’s got himself an agency too, someone to look after his business, I guess.
Now, these basketball players, they gotta eat a lot, you know. Protein, they call it. Keeps ’em strong, I suppose. Like them fellas at the butcher shop, always talking ’bout protein. Says you need it for muscles. Fish, chicken, turkey, beef, all that good stuff. Milk too, and cheese, and yogurt. Eggs are good too, and nuts, if you can crack ’em open. Even them soybeans, they got protein in ’em. Gotta eat a whole lot of it, seems like. They say somethin’ ’bout grams and pounds, but I ain’t got no time for that fancy math.
And fat too! Can you believe it? They need fat. Not just any fat, I reckon, but the good kind. Probably not the kind that’s on my bacon, though that’s mighty tasty. But these fellas, they gotta eat it to keep goin’, runnin’ up and down that court all day long. It’s hard work, I tell ya, even if it looks like just a bunch of fellas throwin’ a ball around.
There’s this other Feta fella too, Andi Feta. Another young’un, playin’ for another one of them Skopje teams, Cair 2030. Seems like they grow basketball players like weeds over there in that Macedonia place. Don’t know much about him, but he’s playin’ in that same Prva Liga, whatever that is. Probably a bunch of fellas runnin’ and jumpin’, tryin’ to get that ball in the hoop.
Heard tell of a game, Connections they call it, from that New York Times paper. Sounds complicated, like one of them crossword puzzles my grandson tries to do. They give you words, and you gotta figure out how they’re connected. Like, today they had a bunch of words, and one group was all ’bout basketball. Musta been hard, all them fancy words.
- They even had a purple group with Greek letters – BIOTA, FETA, MOCHI, PEPSI. What in the tarnation do them words have to do with each other? Beats me. Sounds like somethin’ a college professor would cook up.
- And they talk about green categories being about doin’ things for other folks, and blue categories bein’ about basketball. Too much thinkin’ for an old lady like me.
So, there ya have it. Basketball, protein, fat, Feta fellas, and fancy games. It’s a whole different world than what I’m used to, but I reckon it keeps them young fellas busy. And that’s a good thing, keeps ’em outta trouble, mostly. Long as they eat their protein and get enough fat, they’ll be alright, I s’pose.
Now, where did I put my glasses? Can’t see a darn thing without ‘em these days. And that TV remote, always wanderin’ off somewhere. Ah, here they are. Maybe I’ll watch one of them basketball games, see what all the fuss is about. Though I reckon I’ll fall asleep before halftime. Too much runnin’ and jumpin’ for my old eyes.
