Okay, so I’ve been diving deep into the world of UCLA basketball lately, and let me tell you, it’s a rabbit hole. I wanted to create this awesome, interactive board to keep track of everything – roster, schedule, stats, you name it. I’m calling it my “ucla basketball board”.
Getting Started
First, I needed, you know, actual data. Started simple, just grabbing the current roster from the official UCLA Athletics site. Copied and pasted that into a Google Sheet. Felt pretty good, like I was really making progress.
Building the Foundation
Then came the schedule. This was a little trickier. I wanted something that would automatically update, I’d initially imagined. I could have manually entered everything, but I thought there must be an easier way to get the updated games info automatically.
I figured, “Hey, I’ll just use some basic formulas to pull in stats as the season goes on.” My plan was to track points per game, rebounds, assists – the whole nine yards.
The Setbacks
I quickly realized that my initial Google Sheets plan was, well, a bit too basic. It was functional, sure, but it wasn’t exactly visually appealing, and it’s not user friendly at all. I wanted it looks more interactive, so I realized I need a more suitable platform or tools. It wasn’t dynamic, and it definitely wasn’t going to impress anyone.
The Pivot
And I searched around, played with some other data tools, but I couldn’t figure out the updated info part. I’m still researching how to make this better, maybe a different approach is needed, but I haven’t given up.
What’s Next?
So, my “ucla basketball board” is still very much a work in progress, but I was intended to make it a comprehensive, living document for my Bruin fandom. I just wanted to share my experience so far, even though it’s not perfect yet. This is real life, right? Not everything works out exactly as planned on the first try.I’m learning as I go, and that’s half the fun!
