Well, ain’t that somethin’. Kangaroos, huh? Them jumpy fellas. Heard folks talkin’ ’bout their scores and such. Don’t rightly know what it all means, but I reckon it’s like when ya count up points in a game. See, my grandkid, little Billy, he likes them games. Always screamin’ ’bout scores and winnin’.
Now, these kangaroos, they ain’t playin’ no marbles, that’s for sure. Heard they got this “Pacific Cup” thing. Sounds fancy. Like somethin’ you’d put on a shelf and dust every now and then. Anyways, they won it. Good for ’em, I guess. Twenty to fourteen, they say. Don’t know if that’s a lot or a little, but sounds like they did alright.
- Winners – Them kangaroos, apparently. Jumpin’ around, happy as clams.
- Losers – Some fellas called “Tongan.” Don’t know ’em, but feel a bit bad for ’em. Nobody likes losin’.
Folks say there’s a whole bunch of these kangaroos down in Australia. Millions, they say. Can you imagine? Millions of jumpin’ things! And some folks get all worked up ’bout ’em, sayin’ they’re in danger or somethin’. Cars hittin’ ’em, people huntin’ ’em. Land sakes, leave the poor things be, I say.
Now, this game they play, this “rugby league” or whatever they call it, sounds rough. Like them fellas be smackin’ into each other somethin’ fierce. Reminds me of when ol’ Jed fell off the roof tryin’ to fix the shingles. Oof, that was a sight. He was sore for weeks, bless his heart.
Heard somethin’ ’bout a “thrashin'” too. Fifty-four points, they say. Don’t rightly know who got thrashed, but it sounds like somebody got beat bad. Like when my Bessie took a switch to little Billy’s backside when he was stealin’ cookies from the jar. That boy learned his lesson that day, I tell ya.
And then there’s talk of “veterans.” Makes me think of them fellas from the war, you know, the ones who come back lookin’ all tired and sad. But these ain’t soldiers, these are just fellas playin’ a game. Still, seems like a big deal for ’em.
This “Kiwi Ferns” and “Papua New Guinea” stuff… sounds like somethin’ outta a travel book. Don’t know nothin’ ’bout ’em, but they playin’ too, it seems. Everybody’s playin’ games these days. When I was young, we worked. Didn’t have time for jumpin’ around with a ball.
Anyways, back to them kangaroos. Seems like they doin’ alright. Winnin’ games and all. Just hope they stay outta trouble. Don’t want ’em gettin’ hit by cars or hunted down. They just jumpin’ things, tryin’ to make their way in the world, just like the rest of us.
So there you have it. Kangaroos and their scores. Don’t understand half of it, but seems like a big to-do for some folks. Me? I’m just gonna go make myself a cup of tea and sit a spell. All this talk of jumpin’ and thrashin’ has got me tired.
