Alright, so I wanted to get into something new, and I’ve always been a bit of a sports fan, so I thought, “Why not try hockey?” Specifically, I got curious about Kingswood Oxford hockey. It’s not a team I knew much about, but I figured it would be a good starting point.
First thing I did was look up where they play. Turns out, it’s a prep school in West Hartford, Connecticut. Not too far from me, so that was a plus. I dug around to see if they had any public games or practices I could check out, just to get a feel for their level of play.
- Checked their schedule online.
- Found a few home games that seemed interesting.
- Marked them on my calendar.
Next, I wanted to see what kind of players they had. Did they have any standouts? Any future stars? I spent a good chunk of time just browsing through their roster, looking at player profiles, and trying to get an idea of their strengths and weaknesses.
Then came the hard part – actually watching them play. I managed to catch a couple of games. One was a real nail-biter, went into overtime, and everything. The other was a bit of a blowout, but still fun to watch. I tried to pay attention to their strategies, how they moved the puck, their defense, all that good stuff.
After watching a few games, I started to notice some patterns. Their power play was pretty decent, but their penalty kill could use some work. They had a couple of really skilled forwards who could really fly down the ice, but their defense was a little shaky at times.
All in all, it was a pretty cool experience. I learned a lot about Kingswood Oxford hockey, and about the game in general. It’s definitely something I’d like to keep following. Maybe I’ll even try to make it out to a few more games next season.
What I got out of it
It made me appreciate the work these guys put in. It’s not easy playing at that level, and they make it look pretty darn impressive. Definitely gave me a newfound respect for the sport.
