Okay, so I wanted to keep track of this tennis match, this dude Yannick Hanfmann was playing. I figured, why not try to log the scores in real-time? Seemed like a fun little project.
First, I grabbed my laptop and opened up a new document. I was thinking, should I use a fancy app or something? Nah, I just went with a simple text editor. It’s just easier, you know?
Then the match started. Hanfmann was up against someone, and I just started typing. Every time a point was scored, I’d jot it down. Like, “Hanfmann wins the point,” or “Opponent scores.” Just like that, keeping it super basic.
It got a bit tricky when the games started, so I made a little system for myself. I used a hyphen to separate the games. For example, “1-0” meant Hanfmann was up one game to none.
- I started a new line for each game.
- Tried to keep up with the pace, which was, uh, challenging at times.
- My fingers were flying across the keyboard, haha.
Then there are these things called sets. Basically, you gotta win six games to win a set, but you need to win by two. So, I started tracking those too. When a set ended, I wrote down the score for the whole set, like “6-4” if Hanfmann won, or “3-6” if he lost.
It was pretty intense! There were some long rallies, and I was typing like crazy. Sometimes I’d miss a point and have to quickly ask a friend who was also watching, “Hey, what’s the score now?” Teamwork, right?
The Outcome
At the end of it all, I had this big log of the whole match. It wasn’t pretty, just a bunch of scores and notes, but it was a complete record. I felt pretty good about it, like I’d actually documented something important, even though it was just a tennis match.
I thought about sharing it online, but then I realized it’s probably only interesting to me. Maybe I’ll show it to my buddy who helped me with the scores. It’s cool to have a record of something you watched, especially when you’re rooting for someone like I was for Hanfmann.
So yeah, that’s my story about tracking a tennis match. Maybe next time I’ll try something fancier, but for now, my simple text document does the job. I made it, it’s rough around the edges, but it’s mine.
