Alright, so you wanna know about them Latvian fellas playin’ basketball in the NBA, huh? Well, let me tell ya, it ain’t a whole lot of ’em, but the ones that made it, they’re somethin’ special. I ain’t no expert, mind you, just tellin’ it like I see it.
First off, ya got that big fella, Kristaps Porzingis. They call him a “unicorn” or somethin’. He’s taller than a beanpole, like seven foot three or somethin’, and he can shoot the ball like nobody’s business. He’s been around a while now, played for a few teams. Last I heard, he’s with the Boston Celtics. He’s a good player, that’s for sure, though sometimes he gets hurt. Kinda like my old mule, Bessie, good worker but always somethin’ ailin’ her.
Then there’s Dāvis Bertāns. He’s another shooter, real good from the outside. He was with the San Antonio Spurs for a bit, and now I think he’s playin’ somewhere else. He ain’t as flashy as that Porzingis fella, but he gets the job done. Reminds me of my cousin Billy, quiet and steady, but always reliable.
- Now, there ain’t a whole heap of others, but I heard tell there’s been a few more Latvians in the NBA over the years.
- They say there’s like seven pages of ’em on some basketball website, but I ain’t got time for that internet stuff.
- It’s too complicated for an old woman like me.
Latvia, that’s a small country, you know? Not like America or China or them other big places. So, it’s kinda amazin’ they got any fellas playin’ in the NBA at all. Must be somethin’ in the water over there, makes ’em good at basketball. Or maybe they just practice real hard. Like my grandson, little Timmy, he practices his free throws every day, rain or shine. He wants to be like them NBA fellas one day.
I remember hearin’ about Latvia winnin’ some big basketball tournament way back when, before I was even born, I think. In 1935, they say. That’s a long time ago. Shows they been playin’ ball over there for a while, I guess. It ain’t just some newfangled thing.
And there was that one fella, Kaun, somethin’ like that. He played in Russia for a long time, then came over here and won a championship with the Cleveland Cavaliers. He was Russian, but maybe he had some Latvian in him, I dunno. These European countries, they’re all mixed up together, like a bowl of stew.
So, yeah, that’s about all I know about them Latvian basketball players. Porzingis, Bertans, and a few others that I can’t remember the names of. They’re tall, they can shoot, and they come from a place where they love basketball. Good for them, I say. It ain’t easy makin’ it to the NBA, no matter where you come from.
It’s like plantin’ a garden, you see? You gotta have good seeds, fertile soil, and a whole lotta hard work. And even then, sometimes the weather don’t cooperate, and your crops fail. But them Latvian fellas, they planted their seeds, worked hard, and now they’re harvestin’ the fruits of their labor, playin’ ball in front of millions of people. Good for ’em, I say. Good for ’em.
And who knows, maybe someday there’ll be more Latvians in the NBA. Maybe little Timmy will even play against one of ’em. That would be somethin’, wouldn’t it? An old woman can dream, can’t she?
Anyway, that’s all I got to say about them Latvians. They’re good at basketball, and that’s all that matters. Now, if you’ll excuse me, I gotta go feed my chickens.
