Okay, so today I decided to get back on the ice and check out the local hockey scene in Roxbury. I haven’t played in ages, so I was a little nervous, but mostly excited.
First thing I did was dig out my old gear. Man, was that stuff dusty! I found my skates, helmet, gloves – the whole nine yards – stuffed in a box in the attic. It smelled like, well, like it had been in an attic for years.
Getting Started
I spent a good hour just trying everything on. My old jersey was definitely a little snug, but hey, it still fit! The skates, though… I definitely needed to sharpen those. So, after wrestling with my equipment, I headed to the local rink.
Sharpening the Tools
- Tried to find a local sporting goods store.
- No luck with any major stores, so asked around.
- Got a few different recommendations to go visit some other local rinks!
The Rink
I found the * rink itself was pretty standard – nothing fancy, but it had everything I needed.
Checked around for pick-up game times. Found that the rink was mostly booked with different events.
I was a bit nervous about jumping into a game, but I figured, what the heck? It’s all about having fun, right?
Hitting the Ice
Stepping onto the ice was like riding a bike… a very wobbly, rusty bike. My ankles were killing me after just a few laps. But after a while, I started to get the hang of it again. I even managed to take a few shots on net – most of them missed, but hey, at least I was trying!
Everyone was super cool. I even got a few tips from some of the other guys on the ice.
Overall, it was a blast getting back into hockey. It reminded me how much I love the sport, even if I’m not exactly the most graceful player out there. I’m definitely going to try to make this a regular thing again. My body might hate me tomorrow, but it was totally worth it.
