Okay, so I wanted to keep better track of the Hickory High School football games this year. You know, really get into it. So I decided I needed a way to easily check the scores.
First, I tried just, like, googling it every time. That got old fast. Too much clicking around, different websites, blah blah blah.
My Makeshift Scoreboard
Then I thought, “Hey, I can do this better!” I opened up a simple text document on my computer. Just a plain old notepad file.
Every time I saw a score update, usually on social media or something, I’d jot it down in the document. It looked something like this:
- Week 1: Hickory vs. Northwood – 21-14 (W)
- Week 2: Hickory vs. Central – 10-7 (W)
- Week 3: Hickory vs. south – 31-9 (L)
See? Nothing fancy. Just the bare minimum. The “W” or “L” was my little code for win or lose.
I kept this up for a few weeks. It worked, kinda. It was better than constantly searching online. I like this way.
But then, the file started to get long. And it was kinda hard to find specific games quickly. Plus, I had to be on the lookout for scores all the time. I realized this wasn’t a perfect system.
Eventually, I found a local sports website that actually did a pretty good job of updating the scores. So, I admit, my little text document scoreboard became… obsolete. I still use it now. haha!
It was a fun little experiment, though! It taught me that even something simple can be useful, for a while at least. And it reminded me how much I love Hickory football!
