Okay, here’s my attempt at a blog post, Buckeye style:
Alright, so the other day I was trying to remember some of the players from that killer 2016 Ohio State Buckeyes football team. You know, the one that went to the Fiesta Bowl? Good times, but my memory, not so much. So, I decided to do something about it and make a little project out of finding the whole roster.
First, I just started Googling. You know, the usual – “2016 Ohio State football roster.” Typed it in, hit enter, and boom, tons of stuff came up. But it was all scattered. Different websites, some with bits and pieces, others with, like, way too much info that I didn’t need. I’m just trying to get the names, man!
So, I spent some time, I am not gonna lie a lot time, clicking around, digging through different sports sites. You know how it is, one page leads to another, and suddenly you’re down a rabbit hole of college football stats from ten years ago.
My Little System
I was thinking, I really needed to get this organized. I started a plain old text file. Simple, no fancy formatting, just a place to dump the names as I found them.
It was super tedious at first, copy each player’s name, then switch back to the browser, find the next, copy it, back to the text file, paste….
After a while, I had a decent list going. But there were definitely gaps. Some sites only listed, like, the star players, the quarterbacks, running backs, you know, the guys who get all the glory. I wanted the whole roster, the linemen, the special teams, everyone. The unsung heroes, you feel me?
I went back to the search results and started looking more closely at the different websites. I realized a few of them were more complete than others. These were like gold mines!
I kept copying and pasting, slowly but surely filling in the blanks in my text file. I also added their positions. I got RB, WR, QB, LB, you know, the whole nine yards. It’s start to get a shape.
Finally, after what felt like forever (probably a couple of hours, in reality), I had a pretty solid list. I wouldn’t say it’s 100% perfect, I might be missing a walk-on or two, but it’s good enough for me. I can finally put faces to names and remember those awesome games from 2016. Go Buckeyes!
