Okay, here is my blog post about finding basketball courts in Columbus, Ohio:
So, I moved to Columbus a few months ago, and one of the first things I wanted to do was find some good spots to play basketball. I’m not talking about fancy gyms or anything, just some decent outdoor courts where I can shoot some hoops and maybe get into a pickup game or two.
The Search Begins
I started by just driving around my neighborhood. I figured there had to be some courts nearby, right? I drove past a few schools and parks, but no luck. I did see some kids playing in their driveways, but I wasn’t about to just walk up and ask to join in. That would be weird, right?
Going Online
Next, I decided to hop online and do some searching on my phone. I typed in “basketball courts near me” and a bunch of stuff popped up. There were a few websites that listed parks and recreation centers, so I started making a list of places to check out.
Checking Out the Courts
I spent the next few days visiting some of the parks on my list. Here’s what I found:
- Schiller Park: This place is pretty big and has a lot of other stuff, tennis courts, playground, and even a pond. The basketball courts were in okay shape, but they were full of little kids when I went. So I moved on.
- Goodale Park: Another big park, right in the middle of the city. The courts here were a little better, and there were some older guys playing. I hung around for a bit and watched, but it was a pretty serious game, so I didn’t try to get in.
- Whetstone Park: This one is a bit further north, but it’s a really nice park. They have a bunch of courts, and they were all in good shape. There was a good mix of people playing, from teenagers to adults. I finally got to play a few games here, and it was a lot of fun.
My Go-To Spot
After checking out a few more places, I think I’ve found my go-to spot: Whetstone Park. The courts are good, there are usually people playing, and it’s not too far from where I live. I also found some school courts that are pretty empty on weekends and evenings. I started playing games there. I can play at these courts until the sun goes down and there are no lights to keep it on.
So, if you’re looking for a place to play basketball in Columbus, I definitely recommend checking out Whetstone Park. But there are plenty of other options around the city, so don’t be afraid to explore and find your own favorite spot!
