Okay, so I recently went through the whole Boston Advantage Hockey tryouts thing, and let me tell you, it was a bit of a whirlwind. I figured I’d jot down my experience for anyone else thinking about it.
Getting Started
First off, I registered online. It was pretty straightforward, just filling out a form with all the usual info – name, birthdate, previous experience, preferred position, you know the drill. After paying the registration fee, which was about average I Guess,I got a confirmation email with the dates and times for my age group.
The Day Of
I arrived at the rink, and man, it was packed! So many players and parents milling around. I checked in at a table, got my tryout jersey with a number on it, and then found a spot in the locker room to get my gear on.
The tryouts themselves were split into a few parts. We started with some basic skating drills – forward strides, crossovers, backwards skating, that sort of thing. The coaches were watching us closely, taking notes. It was a little nerve-wracking, but I just tried to focus on doing my best.
Drills and Scrimmages
- Next, we moved on to some puck-handling drills. Weaving through cones, passing, shooting – all the fundamental skills.I really focused on good passes.
- After the drills, we were split into teams for some scrimmages. This was where things really got intense. Everyone was trying to show off their skills and make an impression. I tried to play smart, make good passes, and be in the right position. It was tough, fast-paced hockey.
Waiting and Feeling
After the scrimmages, that was it. We were told we’d be notified by email within a week or so about whether or not we made the team. The wait was the hardest part! I kept checking my email every five minutes. Finally, the email came. I am exciting about it. So i decide to go to the next step.
