Okay, so, about that time I tried getting into tennis in Merrimack… Let me tell you, it was quite the adventure. I’ve always been somewhat interested in tennis, you know, watching those intense matches on TV, so I thought, “Why not give it a shot myself?”
First thing I did was to look for information online. I mean, who doesn’t start there these days, right? I wanted to find some place where I could learn and play, and, if possible, meet some people who also were into this sport. The internet was, as always, full of everything and nothing. But I found some interesting things like the website called “FindTennisLessons”. It seemed like a good place to start.
So, I looked for tennis coaches near me and found this place called PlayYourCourt. I browsed through the coaches and read their profiles. I mean, you gotta know who you’re dealing with, right? But it was quite difficult for me to choose one, so I went back to searching for more options.
Then I stumbled upon the Merrimack College Athletics website. I saw they had a tennis program, and even a head coach named Adam Courtemanch. Division I, no less! I thought, “This is serious stuff.” I even considered reaching out to him, but then I realized that it was probably a bit too advanced for a beginner like me. They have their own men’s tennis schedule and probably it is very difficult to enter there without any previous experience.
I also found out about the Merrimack Tennis Club. It sounded cool, with all those talks about ladders, tournaments, and leagues. But honestly, I was just looking for some simple lessons to start with. I’m not trying to become a pro or anything, just wanted to learn the basics and have some fun. They seemed to have a lot of network members, so I thought that maybe I could make some friends there.
I kept searching and found out that there were some places offering kids’ tennis lessons in Merrimack. I thought, “Well, if kids can do it, why can’t I?” But then again, I didn’t want to be the only adult in a class full of kids. That would have been a bit awkward, to say the least.
I discovered that Merrimack College also has a bunch of student organizations. Over 70! It got me thinking that maybe there was a tennis club or something similar there. But I wasn’t a student, so that was a dead end, I guess.
After all that searching and considering, I finally decided to just go for it. I mean, you don’t learn anything without trying, right? I ended up finding a local coach. We arranged to meet at a court near my place.
The first lesson was… well, let’s just say I was not a natural. I spent most of the time chasing after the ball, and my swings were all over the place. But the coach was patient, and I did manage to hit the ball a few times. I realized that tennis is not as easy as it looks on TV.
I kept going to the lessons, and slowly but surely, I started to get the hang of it. I even managed to have a few decent rallies. It was tough, and I was sore after every session, but it was also a lot of fun. And I did meet some other people who were learning, so that was nice.
So, that’s my Merrimack tennis story. It wasn’t always easy, but I’m glad I tried it. I’m still not very good, but I enjoy playing, and that’s what matters, right? And who knows, maybe one day I’ll even join one of those Merrimack Tennis Club leagues. But for now, I’m happy just hitting the ball and having a good time.
