Okay, so today I decided to work on my basketball skills, inspired by Luke Simons. I’ve been following him for a while, and his dedication is just crazy impressive. I figured, why not try to incorporate some of his drills into my own routine?
First thing, I warmed up. Can’t stress this enough. I did some dynamic stretching, like arm circles, leg swings, and torso twists. Just getting the blood flowing, you know? I Didn’t want to pull anything.
Then, I grabbed my ball and started with some basic dribbling. Just stationary stuff at first. High dribbles, low dribbles, crossovers, between the legs, behind the back. Gotta get a feel for the ball. I focused on keeping my head up and using my fingertips, like I’ve seen Luke do.
- High Dribbles – 2 minutes
- Low Dribbles – 2 minutes
- Crossovers – 2 minutes
- Between the Legs – 2 minutes
- Behind the Back – 2 minutes
Next up, I moved on to some dribbling drills on the move. I set up some cones (well, actually just some water bottles, had to use from home) in a line and practiced dribbling around them. I tried to keep my speed up while maintaining control. It’s tougher than it looks, my handles felt a bit shaky at times, but I pushed through.
After that, I worked on my shooting. Started close to the basket, focusing on my form. Make sure to bend my knees, follow through, and the whole thing. Then, I gradually moved further back, practicing shots from different spots on the court.
Shooting Practice Summary
- Close Range Shots: 20 made shots
- Mid-Range Shots: 20 made shots
- Three-Pointers: 15 made shots (This one was a little rough)
I finished up with some free throws. This part is all about repetition and building muscle memory. I tried to keep my routine consistent, visualizing the ball going in. It is important part.
Honestly, by the end, I was pretty beat. But it felt good. I definitely feel like I got a solid workout in, and I can see how these drills, done consistently, can really improve my game. It’s not going to happen overnight, but I’m going to keep at it. I will keep you guys updated on my next training session.
