Okay, so today, I decided to get back into tennis. It’s been a while, but I’ve been feeling like I need to get more active, and tennis seems like a fun way to do it. I did some digging around for places to play, and it looked like the Marist East Campus Tennis Pavilion was the go-to spot for club tennis. Sounded good to me, so I figured I’d give it a shot.
First things first, I had to remind myself of the basics. It’s been a hot minute since I last played, and I was definitely rusty. Scoring? Rules? Yeah, needed a refresher on all of that. I found some basic guides online, that were super helpful. They had everything a beginner, or a rusty old-timer like me, would need.
Getting Started
- Warming Up: Before I even thought about hitting a ball, I made sure to do some warm-up stretches. Didn’t want to pull anything on my first day back. Did some arm circles, leg swings, you know, the usual.
- Finding a Partner: Luckily, I met this friendly guy who was also looking for someone to hit with. We introduced ourselves, and he seemed pretty chill. Teamwork makes the dream work, right?
- Hitting the Courts: We grabbed a court at the East Campus Pavilion. It was a nice setup, I gotta say. Courts looked well-maintained, and there was a good vibe in the air.
Practice Makes Perfect
We started off just rallying, trying to get a feel for the ball again. My forehand was all over the place at first. But, hey, that’s part of the process. My backhand felt a bit more solid, surprisingly. We practiced for a good hour, just hitting back and forth, trying to get some consistency back in our strokes.
After a while, we decided to play a few practice games. Nothing serious, just to get back into the rhythm of playing points. I lost the first couple, but I could feel myself getting better with each game. Then, I actually won one! Felt pretty good, not gonna lie. I kept it simple, tried to get the ball back, and make some good choices about my shot.
Cooling Down
Once we were both pretty tired, we decided to call it a day. We did some cool-down stretches, chatted a bit more about tennis, and then went our separate ways. Overall, it was a really good experience. It felt great to be back on the court, and I’m definitely planning on going back again soon. It’s a good way to get some exercise, meet new people, and just have some fun. Tennis is a blast, and I’m glad I decided to pick it up again.
