So, I heard the name Marvin Minkler the other day and it got me thinking. This guy is really starting to make waves in the hockey world. I mean, I saw some clips of him coaching, and he’s got this energy, you know? He used to coach at Greenwich and now he’s with Trinity Catholic, and I heard from Chris Gerwig himself that he’s been wanting Minkler on his team for ages. Apparently, he’s made quite a difference there.
I did a bit of digging and found out that Minkler also does summer camps with BIA, working alongside Alex Rowella. That’s some serious dedication. They spend hours on the ice, plus off-ice training with John McKeon, and even floor ball. Seems like they’re really shaping these young players into well-rounded athletes.
Then, there’s this whole thing about him coaching street stock, number 71, if you can believe it. He’s from Stamford, and there are some stories about his career and achievements, but I couldn’t find the actual videos, sadly. There were some mentions about a rulebook and FAQs. But, his email is floating around somewhere on this site dedicated to rinks.
But, get this, there was some drama! Apparently, Minkler got into a bit of trouble for allegedly hitting a 10-year-old player during practice. That’s not cool, man. He’s 53, and you’d think he’d know better than to lose his temper like that.
I also stumbled upon this thing called “Tiers Master.” I don’t know if it is related to him but it sounds like some kind of fantasy hockey thing where you draft a team and can win 50,000 “crowns,” whatever those are. The prize seems pretty big. I might need to check it out.
Anyway, I managed to find some videos of Minkler on this platform called Hudl. He’s associated with Power Edge Pro Hockey, over in Ridgeway. It’s mostly him coaching and giving tips, looks pretty intense.
So, yeah, that’s my little journey down the Marvin Minkler rabbit hole. It’s a mixed bag, really. He’s clearly a passionate and skilled coach, but that incident with the kid is definitely a stain on his record. I guess everyone has their ups and downs, right?
