Well, ain’t this somethin’. Miami football forum, they say. What’s a forum anyway? Sounds like one of them fancy meetin’ places, like the town hall where ol’ man Johnson used to yell about the chickens gettin’ loose. But this here’s about football, not chickens, I reckon.
So, Miami football. Never been to Miami, heard it’s got beaches and them palm trees. And football, lots of football, like them fellas runnin’ around chasin’ a pigskin. Sounds like a hoot, watchin’ young fellas bumpin’ into each other. Better than watchin’ paint dry, that’s for sure.
- Hurricanes, they call ’em. Like a big storm, blowin’ everything away. Guess they wanna blow away the other teams on that football field. Makes sense, I suppose. Ain’t no fun losin’, everyone wants to be the rooster in the hen house.
- Heard somethin’ about a championship game. Big game, I bet. Everyone gettin’ all riled up, cheerin’ and hollerin’. Reminds me of the county fair pie eatin’ contest, folks get real serious ’bout them pies.
Now, these fellas talkin’ ’bout recruiting. Gettin’ new players, fresh blood, like plantin’ new seeds in the garden. Gotta get the best seeds, or your garden won’t grow right. Same with football, gotta get them strong, fast boys if you wanna win games.
Someone said somethin’ ’bout threads. Ain’t threads what you use to sew up a torn shirt? But I reckon they mean somethin’ different here. Like different stories, different talks ’bout the Hurricanes. Just like at the beauty parlor, everyone gossips ’bout different things. Keeps things interestin’, I guess.
And then there’s scores and stats. Numbers, numbers, numbers. My head starts spinnin’ lookin’ at numbers. But folks like ’em, keeps track of who’s winnin’ and who’s losin’. Just like keepin’ score when playin’ cards, gotta know who’s got the upper hand.
This forum thing, it’s like a big ol’ town square. Everyone comin’ together, talkin’ ’bout the same thing: Miami football. Reminds me of the potlucks we used to have at the church, everyone bringin’ somethin’ to share, everyone talkin’ and laughin’. Only here, they sharin’ words ’bout football.
See, I think folks just like to talk. They like to share what they think, what they feel. And football, it gives ’em somethin’ to talk about. Somethin’ to get excited about. Somethin’ to argue about, even. Just like folks arguin’ ’bout whose pie is the best at the county fair.

Georgia Tech, I hear they play ’em. Another team, I guess. Like two roosters in the same pen, gotta see who comes out on top. Folk sure do get worked up ’bout these games, yellin’ at the TV like them players can hear ’em.
Anyways, it’s been interestin’, learnin’ ’bout this forum thing. Never thought I’d be talkin’ ’bout football, but here I am. Guess you learn somethin’ new every day, even an old gal like me.
