Okay, so, let’s talk about getting my kid into midget hockey. It’s been a journey, I tell ya. I started by figuring out what gear is needed. I mean, safety first, right?
First thing I did was to look up online to see what kind of gear I needed to buy. You would not believe how many different types of helmets and shoulder pads there are.
After a week of searching, I ended up buying them from a local shop.
I grabbed a helmet, shoulder pads, elbow pads, gloves, hockey pants, shin guards, skates, and a stick. Oh, and a mouthguard. Can’t forget that!
Finding a League
Next up, I had to find a local midget hockey league. This wasn’t as easy as I thought it would be. I asked around, called a few places, and finally found one that seemed like a good fit. It’s all about finding a balance between competitiveness and fun, you know?
Registration
Then came the registration process. Forms, fees, and more forms. I filled out medical history, emergency contacts, and all that jazz. Made sure to double-check everything ’cause you never know when that info will be needed. Paid the registration fee, and bam, my kid was officially signed up.
First Practice
The first practice was a big deal. I made sure all the gear fit properly. I mean my son was running around in the living room before that. It was a funny sight to see. We got to the rink, and the coach ran the kids through some drills. It was cool to see them all out there on the ice, learning and having a good time.
Getting into the Groove
We’re a few weeks in now, and it’s been quite a ride. There have been ups and downs, wins and losses, but overall, it’s been a great experience. I’ve watched my kid grow, not just as a hockey player but as a person. There’s something about being part of a team that really brings out the best in these kids.
And yeah, the early morning practices are tough, and there’s a lot of driving around, but honestly, I wouldn’t trade it for the world. Seeing my kid out there on the ice, giving it their all, that’s what it’s all about. Plus, I’ve met some really cool parents along the way. We’re all in this together, freezing our butts off at the rink, but hey, that’s midget hockey for ya!
