I’m super excited to talk about what I did today: playing tennis at Monmouth.
First off, I got up and checked the weather. Sunny! Perfect for tennis. Then I grabbed my racket and a can of balls. I made sure I had my water bottle too – gotta stay hydrated, you know?
I headed over to Monmouth. I found out their men’s tennis team is pretty good. They even made it to the semifinals in some big tournament last year and had a winning record. That’s some serious game! I heard they’ve got a solid coach, too.
When I got to the courts, I saw some of the team practicing. Man, they were hitting the ball hard. They even beat some team called Lehigh recently. And something about them playing at a place called Little Silver Tennis Club and not losing there. That’s awesome, seems like they are good at home match.
Here’s what I did on the court:
- Warm-up: Started with some light jogging around the court, then did some stretches. I focused on my arms and legs, since those are super important in tennis.
- Forehands and Backhands: I spent a good amount of time just hitting forehands and backhands. Tried to keep the ball deep and aimed for the corners. My backhand’s a bit wobbly, gotta work on that.
- Volleys: I practiced my volleys at the net. Timing is everything here, and it’s tough! I missed a bunch, but also got some good ones in.
- Serves: Worked on my serve. I’m trying to get more power and accuracy. It’s hard to do both at the same time! I hit a few aces though, felt pretty good about that.
After all that, I played a couple of sets with a friend. We had some really good rallies. I lost the first set, but I came back and won the second one! We were both pretty tired by the end, but it was a lot of fun.
Playing at Monmouth was a cool experience. Seeing the university team practice was inspiring. It made me want to get better at tennis. I definitely need to work on my consistency and maybe get some tips from their coach if I can. Overall, it was a great day of tennis. I’m already looking forward to my next time on the court!
