Okay, so I’ve been wanting a navy tennis skirt for a while now. I finally decided to just go for it and make one myself. Let me tell you, it was a journey!
Finding the Right Fabric
First things first, I needed to find the right fabric. I went to a couple of fabric stores, feeling a bit lost in a sea of materials. I wanted something that was comfortable, breathable, and had a bit of stretch. Finally, I found this perfect navy blue fabric that was just what I was looking for. It was a bit of a splurge, but hey, you gotta treat yourself sometimes, right?
The Pattern Puzzle
Next up, the pattern. I considered just winging it, but I figured that might end in disaster. So, I searched online and found a few free tennis skirt patterns. I picked one that looked relatively simple and printed it out. It was like a giant puzzle with all these different pieces. I carefully cut them out, feeling like a little kid doing arts and crafts.
Cutting and Sewing
Then came the actual cutting of the fabric. I carefully laid out the pattern pieces on the fabric, making sure everything was aligned properly. I pinned everything in place and took a deep breath before making the first cut. It was a bit nerve-wracking, but I managed to cut out all the pieces without any major mishaps. Now, my room looked like it was covered by many fabric pieces, which made me feel a little overwhelmed.
Sewing was the most challenging part, I think. It was quite difficult to deal with those curves at first. I started by sewing the pleats, which was a bit tricky. But after a few tries, I got the hang of it. Then, I sewed the side seams and attached the waistband. The zipper gave me a bit of a headache, to be honest. I had to rip it out and redo it a couple of times, but I finally got it right.
The Final Touches
After all the sewing was done, I tried on the skirt. It was a bit rough around the edges, but it actually looked like a tennis skirt! I trimmed any loose threads and pressed the skirt to give it a more polished look. I added a cute little label on the inside, just for fun. The end result will make it look more official and professional.
The Finished Product
- Fit: It fit surprisingly well! I was so relieved that I didn’t have to make any major alterations.
- Comfort: The fabric felt great against my skin, and the skirt was super comfortable to move around in.
- Look: I was really happy with how it looked. It was simple, classic, and exactly what I had envisioned.
I’m so proud of myself for making this skirt. It was a lot of work, but it was totally worth it. Now I have a custom-made navy tennis skirt that I can wear with pride. And the best part is, I can say I made it myself! It’s not perfect, but it’s mine, and that’s what matters. Plus, I learned a ton along the way. Maybe I’ll even make another one someday, who knows?
