Okay, folks, let’s dive into my little project from today: making an Ohio State football t-shirt.
First, I brainstormed. I wanted something simple, but also something that would, you know, actually look like an Ohio State shirt. I wasn’t going for anything fancy, just a classic design.
Then, I dug around in my closet for a plain red t-shirt. I figured red was the way to go – gotta represent the Buckeyes! I found one that was pretty much brand new, so score!
The Design Process
Next up: the design. I grabbed some cardboard and cut out a stencil of the Ohio State logo. To be honest it isn’t a really good-looking logo. I basically just eyeballed it from a picture I found online.
- First try: Total fail. The cardboard was too flimsy, and the paint bled everywhere.
- Second try: I reinforced the cardboard with some tape. Better, but still not great.
- Third try: I ditched the cardboard altogether and used some thicker cardstock I found in my craft bin. This worked much better!
I laid the t-shirt flat on my table and positioned the stencil in the center. Then, I carefully applied some white fabric paint with a sponge brush. I did a couple of coats to make sure the white was nice and bright.
Finishing Touches
After the paint dried, I carefully peeled off the stencil. It wasn’t perfect, but hey, it’s handmade! It has that “rustic” charm, right?
Finally, I tossed the shirt in the dryer to heat-set the paint. I’m no expert, but I read online that this helps it last longer. We’ll see how it holds up in the wash!
All in all, a fun project that could show my love for the team.
