Okay, so I’ve been digging into Zambian football news lately, and let me tell you, it’s been a bit of a journey. I started out just wanting to see what’s up with the national team, you know, the usual stuff like how they’re doing in the CAN and World Cup qualifiers.
First, I tried to find some general news sites, the kind that give you the headlines and maybe some short articles. I found a few, but honestly, it wasn’t super easy to navigate. A lot of them had tons of ads, and the information was kinda all over the place. I was just trying to figure out what games were coming up, and which players were doing well.
Then I went down the rabbit hole of trying to track the league standings. Man, that was something else. I saw numbers like “21 8 5 71 2 Zesco United 34 15 14 5 59” and “3 Power Dynamos 34 14 14 6 56”. I mean, what does it all mean? I get that they are team names, but the numbers didn’t have any labels! After some digging, I finally figured out it was probably something like “games played, wins, draws, losses, points.” Sheesh.
- Zesco United seems to be doing pretty well.
- Power Dynamos are up there too.
- Then there’s a team called Maestro United…never heard of them before, but they’re in the mix.
I also stumbled upon some info about upcoming matches. Like, I saw “29 Jun 2024 12:00 am. Nkwazi 2 1 Green Eagles” and “1 Jun 2024 3:00 pm. Trident FC 1 …”. So it looks like Nkwazi beat Green Eagles, and Trident FC had a game too, but I’m not sure who they played or what the final score was. It’s all a bit messy, to be honest.
Diving Deeper
I kept digging, determined to get a better grip on things. I found out that there are some elections coming up for the FAZ (Football Association of Zambia), I guess that’s like the big bosses of football in Zambia. “FAZ ELECTORAL COMMITTEE ROLLS OUT PROVINCIAL ELECTIONS DATES” was a headline I saw, with a date of January 15. No idea what year, though. Maybe they will talk about it on January 15, 2025? Who knows.
Oh, and I found something called “The Battle of the Zambezi: Zambia vs. Zimbabwe in COSAFA 2024”. Sounds exciting, right? I love a good rivalry match. Not sure when it is or if it already happened, but I’ll definitely try to find out more about that. It had tags like “Zambia” and “Football”, so that’s promising.
All in all, getting into Zambian football news has been a bit of a wild ride. It’s not as straightforward as following, say, the Premier League, but it’s definitely interesting. There’s a lot of passion there, and I’m starting to get a feel for the teams and players. It just takes a bit of work to find the info you need and piece it all together. I even saw a mention of “Players Abroad” on November 14, but I have no idea which players or where they went. I guess I need to keep digging! I’ll keep you guys posted if I find anything really cool.
