So, I got this email the other day about the New Jersey Women’s Tennis League, the NJWTL. I thought, “Hey, this sounds interesting,” ’cause I’ve been itching to get back on the court and play some competitive tennis.
First, I started to look into it, you know, just to see what it’s all about. Found out it’s a pretty big deal with tons of teams, like over 130 from 40 clubs or something. They play on clay courts, which is kind of cool, and it’s a nine-week season. I’m thinking, “Okay, this is serious.”
Then I dug a little deeper. Turns out there are a bunch of series, 14 to be exact, and each one has around 10 teams. It’s pretty organized, and they even have a schedule posted. I saw that a match was coming up, Bay Head against Short Hills, and West Orange against Seabright. Nice, right?
I started asking around, talking to some friends who play. One of them mentioned that her club, Seabright, has like five teams in the league. That’s a lot of tennis! She told me it is quite competitive and fun.
- Talked to friends about the league.
- Checked out the schedule online.
- Looked into which clubs are involved.
Getting in on the Action
So, I decided to go for it. I mean, why not? I contacted one of the clubs near me and got the details on how to join. They were super helpful, explaining the whole process, and even told me that finding a match around my place is easy, as they have more than 160 leagues! The lady at the club said it is easy to find a game when you have over 50 APTA leagues around the country.
Next thing I know, I’m filling out forms, paying the fees, and getting ready for my first match. It’s been a while since I played competitively, but I’m pumped. I even found a website that lists all the indoor tennis centers in New Jersey. Pretty handy for the colder months.
It’s been a whirlwind, but I’m really excited about joining the NJWTL. It’s a great way to meet other players, stay active, and have some fun. Plus, who doesn’t love a little friendly competition? I think it’s going to be a great experience. I’m even considering joining their flex league or mixed league next time.
I just wanted to share my little adventure for now, and hopefully, it might inspire some of you to pick up a racket and join a league too. It is never too late to find a game and an opponent around you!
Anyway, I’ll keep you all posted on how my matches go. Wish me luck!
