Okay, so I’ve been wanting to customize my plain old helmet for a while now. I’m a huge Ohio State Buckeyes fan, and I figured, why not show off my team pride? I decided to go with the classic look – those iconic Buckeye leaf decals. Here’s how I went about it.
Getting Started
First things first, I needed to get my hands on the actual decals. I wanted to made sure that they were good quality and the correct size, so I did a lot of searching, finally I got a set that looked perfect.
Prep Work
Before I even thought about sticking anything on, I cleaned the helmet. I just used some regular soap and water, making sure to scrub off any dirt or grime. You want a nice, clean surface so the decals stick properly. I then used a dry towel to wipe every inch, waiting for it totally dry.
Placing the Decals
This was the nerve-wracking part! I wanted to get the placement just right. I held the main stripe in my hand, and peel off the back paper.
- I started with the center stripe. It seemed like the easiest way to get everything aligned. I carefully lined it up, starting at the front of the helmet and working my way back.
- I used my fingers to smooth it down, pressing out any air bubbles as I went.
The Buckeye Leaves
Next up were the Buckeye leaves. Those were a bit easier, since they’re smaller.
I just needed to spread them out on the sides of the helmet.
- I carefully peeled them off of back paper.
- I slowly put it on the sides and smooth it.
Finishing Touches
Once all the decals were on, I gave the whole helmet a good once-over. I pressed down on all the edges to make sure everything was stuck securely. And that’s pretty much it! It took a little bit of patience, but it wasn’t hard at all. My helmet looks awesome – way better than it did before. Now I’m ready to rock my Buckeye pride wherever I go!
