Okay, so I’ve been messing around with some hockey data lately, specifically PGA, and I wanted to share what I’ve been up to. It’s a bit rough around the edges, but hey, that’s how we learn, right?
Getting Started
First things first, I needed to get my hands on some data. I did some digging and found a source I am not able to share it with you. Once I grabbed the data, it was a mess. Seriously, a total jumbled-up spreadsheet.
Cleaning Up the Mess
So, the next chunk of time was spent cleaning everything up. I used Google sheets to
- Remove duplicates: There were a bunch of repeated entries, gotta get rid of those.
- Fix inconsistencies: Some player names were spelled differently, dates were formatted weirdly… you name it.
- Make it readable! After all that to see what I needed.
Doing Stuff with the Data
After that I was able to see what I needed and show it to my friends! We had a few laughs.
It’s still a work in progress, of course. I have some ideas about displaying things visually, and I was not able to do that, I will keep you posted!
