Okay, so I got this weird idea the other day: what if Pope Francis had his own hockey team? I know, it sounds nuts, but I couldn’t get it out of my head. So, I decided to actually try and make a “Pope Francis Hockey Roster.” Here’s how it all went down.
Brainstorming the Basics
First, I needed some players. I wasn’t going to go for real NHL stars or anything. This was more about, like, symbolic players, people who represent virtues or ideas I associate with the Pope. Or just funny ideas, honestly.
I figured,I should write all my ideas on the paper, otherwise I might forget it.
- Started jotting down names.
- Think about some symbolic roles.
Picking the “Players”
This is where it got a little tricky. I wanted a mix of, like, historical figures, some religious figures, and maybe a few totally random ones, just for fun. It took a while, flipping through websites and racking my brain. Finally got a list I was kind of happy with:
- Forwards:
- St. Francis of Assisi (gotta have him, right?)
- Mother Teresa (speed and compassion, maybe?)
- Joan of Arc (fiery determination on the wing)
- Nelson Mandela (leadership and resilience up front)
- A random penguin.
- Defense:
- St. Michael the Archangel (ultimate protector)
- King Solomon (wisdom and strategy on the blue line)
- Harriet Tubman (unyielding and tough)
- A brick wall. I mean it, a literal brick wall.
- Goalie:
- Noah (saved everyone, so good under pressure, I guess?)
Putting It All Together
I ended up with a list. Then I tried to imagine them playing. That was hard to achieve.
I’m not a professional at hockey, so the list above may seem a little bit odds for others.
So, that was my little project! Kind of silly, maybe a little bit thought-provoking, and definitely a fun way to spend an afternoon. It’s probably not going to win any awards for realism, but hey, it’s the Pope Francis Hockey Roster. It’s not supposed to make perfect sense!
