Well now, let me tell ya a bit about them Portland State tennis folks. They’re part of them Vikings, y’know, the ones that play all sorts of games—basketball, soccer, volleyball, golf, tennis, and whatnot. They been playin’ in the NCAA Division I for a long time now, and if you ask me, they ain’t half bad at it. The Portland State Vikings been in the Big Sky Conference since ’96, and they sure ain’t lettin’ that go anytime soon. So, if you ever hear someone mention them Vikings, you can be sure they’re talkin’ about some serious sports folks.
Now, if you fancy yourself a bit of tennis, Portland State’s got a whole lot to offer. They got both men’s and women’s tennis teams, and let me tell ya, these folks don’t just play for fun. They train hard, and they take that racket and ball seriously. The women’s team, they been workin’ real hard too, and their roster’s lookin’ mighty fine for the 2024-2025 season. It’s all up to the girls now, ain’t it? They’ll be out there givin’ their best shot.
On the men’s side of things, well, they ain’t had the best luck when it comes to wins lately, but don’t go thinkin’ they ain’t tryin’. I heard tell that they been doin’ a whole lotta work on their individual skills, and it’s payin’ off, even if the scoreboard don’t always show it. Heck, just the other day they had themselves a tough match against Seattle—fell behind by a couple points, but they didn’t give up. No sir, they pulled themselves back up and won 4-3. That’s some real determination there, if you ask me. That comeback win over Seattle sure made folks proud, especially at the Tualatin Hills Tennis Center, where the whole town was watchin’.
Now, don’t go thinkin’ that these players don’t know what they’re doin’. The Portland State tennis teams—they know their stuff. And you can see it if you catch one of their matches. They might be playin’ against some tough teams, but they don’t back down. They fight tooth and nail till the end, and that’s somethin’ I can respect. Whether it’s doubles or singles, they show up and give it all they’ve got.
Folks been sayin’ that this year’s gonna be somethin’ special for the Portland State tennis teams. They got the energy, they got the skill, and they got the heart. What more could you ask for? So, if you find yourself in Portland, or near a computer, look ‘em up, watch a match, or even better, get yourself down to a game. I promise you’ll have a good time watchin’ them Vikings play. And if you ask me, it might just get your blood pumpin’ like it’s one of them big games on TV.
And don’t forget—if you’re one of them younger folks lookin’ to play, you can always catch up with the tennis club for some practice. They meet Monday through Thursday, 7 to 9 PM, so you got plenty of time to work on your skills, just like them college players. Who knows, maybe one day you’ll be out there representin’ Portland State just like them big-league folks.
So, whether it’s watchin’ the pros or playin’ with friends, tennis at Portland State is somethin’ you don’t wanna miss. The Vikings are out there, workin’ hard and playin’ even harder. Don’t let it pass ya by!
