Well, let me tell you, them boys over at Reading High sure know how to skate. I been watchin’ ’em for years, and I ain’t never seen a team work together quite like them. The Reading Memorial Varsity Boys Ice Hockey team, they’re somethin’ special, you know? Now, I ain’t no expert on all them fancy hockey terms, but I can tell you this: they got grit. And I reckon that’s what counts the most.
On Saturday, March 2, 2024, them boys had a tough one at Burbank Arena, playin’ against Marshfield High School. They fought hard, they really did. But after a long, tough battle, they lost in a two-overtime game. That’s a shame, but you can’t win ‘em all. It ended up with Marshfield takin’ the game, but the Reading boys, they didn’t go down easy, no sir. They fought ‘til the very last second, and you gotta give ’em credit for that.
Now, the Rockets – that’s what they call themselves – they had another one not long ago, a big ol’ win over Arlington. Now, that’s a team you don’t take lightly. Arlington’s no slouch. But you shoulda seen it, them Rockets came out strong and shut them Spy Ponders down cold, with a final score of 4-0. And that Laz Giardina, he sure knows how to fire that puck. Scored the third goal in their 3-1 win over Arlington, and let me tell you, that goal was somethin’ to see! Ain’t no doubt in my mind, Laz and the whole team, they’ve been trainin’ hard. You could tell by the way they moved on that ice.
But it ain’t just about the wins and losses, though. The real magic happens when the whole team gets together. It’s the teamwork that really shines through. I been to enough of their games to know that it ain’t just about who scores the most goals or who’s the fastest skater. It’s about how they work as a team, helpin’ each other out, and coverin’ for one another when the goin’ gets tough. And when them boys get to skatin’, it’s like watchin’ a well-oiled machine. They move in sync, like they’ve been playin’ together for years – even if some of ‘em are just playin’ for their first season.
Now, I know it’s a lot to keep up with all these games and schedules. But you can find all that info on the internet if you need it. Just look up the Reading Memorial boys varsity ice hockey team schedule. It’s all there, every game, every date, every time. You don’t wanna miss the next big game, believe me. And if you’re really interested, you can even see the full roster – who’s playin’, who’s sittin’ out, all of it. It’s important to know who’s on that ice when them boys are workin’ their magic!
There’s a lot more to this game than just puck and sticks. It’s about pride, it’s about passion, and it’s about the community. You’d be surprised at how many folks show up to them games. Everyone’s got their favorite player, or maybe they just love the whole team. The whole town gets behind them. And let me tell you, when them boys win, it feels like the whole town won, too. Everybody’s walkin’ around with a big ol’ smile on their face, proud of what the Rockets done out there on that ice.
But no matter how good they get, or how many games they win, they’ll always keep their heads up. That’s just how them boys from Reading do. They got heart, they got determination, and they got a whole lotta support from the folks back home. And that’s somethin’ you just can’t teach. It comes from the heart. So, if you ever get the chance, come on down to a game and see for yourself. You might just see somethin’ you won’t forget!
