Hey everyone, I’ve been meaning to share my latest adventure with you all, and today’s the day. It’s about getting into the Rider men’s tennis scene. Yeah, it might sound a bit random, but trust me, it’s been quite a ride.
So, it all started when I stumbled upon some info about the Rider University Broncs men’s tennis team. I didn’t know much about college tennis, but the idea of diving into a new sports scene got me hooked. I found out that they are in the Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference (MAAC) and are based in Lawrenceville, NJ. I’m not from Jersey, but hey, why not explore?
First things first, I tried to get a feel for the team’s vibe. I did a little digging online, and it turns out they have a pretty active social media presence. They are on Twitter, where I found a bunch of updates and what looks like a pretty engaged community. I saw a handle, @RiderTennis, with a good following. It made me think, “Okay, these guys are serious about their sport.”
Next, I wanted to see what their schedule was like. I managed to find their 2022-23 schedule online, which was cool because it gave me an idea of their season. They had a match against Mount St. Mary’s that sounded intense – apparently, they were down 3-0 but managed to win 4-3. That’s some serious comeback spirit!
I also found out they had something called the Ranger Invitational, where they opened their 2022 spring season. I thought, “Man, these guys are all over the place!” I’m not a tennis pro or anything, but following their journey started to feel like my own little project.
Then, I got curious about the bigger picture of college tennis. I learned that Rider’s team is part of NCAA Division I. I always thought college sports were a big deal in the US, but seeing it up close like this is something else. I checked out some general tennis scores on a site called Flashscore, just to get a sense of how scores and stats are tracked. It’s pretty detailed stuff, with all the aces, double faults, and all that jazz.
I also tried to find out more about their coach, Thomas Battaglia, who seems to be a relatively new and big deal for the team. Apparently, he’s bringing a fresh perspective, and everyone’s excited to see where he takes the team. It got me thinking about how important a good coach is in any sport.
But, it wasn’t just about stats and schedules. I wanted to see what the actual experience of being at a game might be like. I didn’t find any videos or personal stories that really captured that, but I imagine it’s got to be electric. College sports fans are known for their passion, and I bet a Rider tennis match is no different.
Here’s what I did, step-by-step:
- Dug up info about the team online.
- Followed their social media for updates.
- Checked out their schedule and some past game results.
- Learned about their coach and the team’s dynamics.
- Got a basic understanding of college tennis and how it’s organized.
So, that’s my little journey into the world of Rider men’s tennis. It’s been fun to learn about a sport and a team I knew nothing about before. I’m not sure if I’ll make it to a game anytime soon, I want to be there in person one day, but for now, I’m happy to be a long-distance fan. It just goes to show that there’s always something new to discover, even in something as seemingly simple as college sports.
Anyone else out there follow college tennis? Or have any tips for getting more involved? Let me know in the comments!
