Oh, let me tell ya ’bout Ron Curry, the basketball player. Now, this young man, he didn’t come from no big fancy school at first. Nope, he went to James Madison, that’s where he got his start. But don’t let that fool ya, ’cause he played his heart out. I remember folks talkin’ ’bout him when he was still in high school at Paul VI. They say he was somethin’ special even back then. Now, mind ya, he wasn’t drafted in the NBA right away in 2016, but that don’t mean nothin’. Sometimes, life don’t give you the easy path, but he kept on pushin’.
When Ron Curry was a senior, he sure was gettin’ a lot of attention. He was First Team All-CAA, and let me tell ya, that’s somethin’. He even got named CAA Player of the Week not once, but three times—once in December and then twice in February and March. Now, that’s a hardworking fella right there. He didn’t just sit back and wait for things to come to him. No sir, he went out and earned it.
After high school and college, Ron didn’t give up on his dream. Nope, he just kept on goin’. Now, I heard he signed with a team over in Europe—VEF Riga it was, over in Latvia, if I remember right. That was a smart move, ’cause he got a chance to show his skills. He wasn’t gonna let not gettin’ drafted stop him. Oh no, he was determined to play basketball no matter where he had to go. And ya know what? That’s what made him successful. Hard work, that’s what it takes.
Now, I reckon a lot of folks might not know Ron Curry’s name as much as the big NBA stars, but let me tell ya, he’s got the spirit of a champion. He just kept movin’, playin’ his game. He might not have been born with a silver spoon or gone straight to the NBA, but he sure earned his place in the sport. A lot of folks respect that, and I think that’s somethin’ to admire. Even if he wasn’t in the spotlight all the time, he made a good life out of what he loved doin’, and that’s what counts at the end of the day.
- Undrafted in 2016, but kept playin’
- First Team All-CAA in college
- Signed with VEF Riga overseas
- Showed hard work and dedication
So, if you ever think about Ron Curry, just remember, he’s proof that even if things don’t go your way right off the bat, you can still make somethin’ of yourself. It ain’t about where you start, but where you end up, and Ron Curry, well, he ended up playin’ basketball around the world, and that’s somethin’ worth talkin’ about.
