Okay, so I got curious about this Ryan Day guy, the football coach. I wanted to trace his football career path, you know, see how he got to where he is now. Started digging around, it was like putting together a puzzle.
First Steps into Football
Started with his early days. Found out he was a quarterback at the University of New Hampshire. Played there from 1998 to 2001. Not a superstar, but definitely made his mark. I looked through old game records and articles – it was cool to see how he performed back then. He had some good games, threw some touchdowns.
Coaching Beginnings
Then, I followed his transition to coaching. Right after college, he became a tight ends coach at his alma mater. That was in 2002. I looked for anything I could find about that period, and found some interviews with players he coached. They said he was pretty hands-on and detailed. From there, he bounced around a bit.
- 2003-2004: Became a graduate assistant at Boston College. I checked out their team records from those years to see if there was any impact.
- 2005: Spent a year as a graduate assistant at the University of Florida. This was under Urban Meyer. I dug into that connection, thinking it must have been a big deal for him.
- 2006: Went back to Boston College as a wide receivers coach. Stayed there for five years. I read some articles about how the receivers did during that time.
Climbing the Ladder
His career really started picking up after that. He jumped to Temple University in 2012, serving as offensive coordinator and wide receivers coach. I tried to find some game analyses from that year to see how the offense performed. Then, he went back to Boston College in 2013, this time as offensive coordinator and quarterbacks coach. Stayed there for two years. I checked out player stats and team performances during his tenure. There was some improvement, it looked like.
NFL Stint
In 2015, he made the leap to the NFL. Became the quarterbacks coach for the Philadelphia Eagles under Chip Kelly. I looked up articles about how the Eagles’ QBs did that year. It was a mixed bag, but still, it’s the NFL. The next year, 2016, he followed Kelly to the San Francisco 49ers, same role. I did the same thing, checked out the 49ers’ QB performance.
Ohio State Journey
Then came the big move to Ohio State in 2017. Started as co-offensive coordinator and quarterbacks coach. I spent a lot of time on this part, reading articles, watching clips, you name it. Ohio State’s offense was pretty explosive during those years. In 2018, he was even the acting head coach for three games when Urban Meyer was suspended. I watched those games, paid attention to how the team played under him.
Head Coach Era
And finally, he became the head coach in 2019. I’ve been following the team closely since then, watching games, reading post-game analyses, the whole nine yards. It’s been a rollercoaster, with some great wins and some tough losses.
Going through all this, it felt like I was tracing the steps of someone who really worked his way up. It wasn’t a straight path, but every move seemed to add something to his experience. And man, the amount of information out there is crazy. It took some time, but piecing it all together was pretty satisfying. It gave me a whole new perspective on the guy I see on the sidelines every Saturday.
