Seamus Powell and His Journey in Hockey
Well, now, if you ain’t heard ’bout Seamus Powell yet, lemme tell ya, he’s a young fella who’s been makin’ quite the name for himself in the world of hockey. Born with a stick in his hand, Powell’s been a defenseman who’s been climbin’ up the ranks, from local leagues to big-time teams. He’s one of them players who don’t mind puttin’ in the hard work, sweat, and blood on the ice.
Powell started his career with USA Hockey’s National Team Development Program, or NTDP for short. That’s where he really started shinin’, if you ask me. In them two years with the NTDP, Seamus played 50 games in one season and put up a goal along with 11 assists. Not too shabby for a young fella, right? In fact, he was even named to the 2022 BioSteel All-American team. That’s a big deal for any hockey player, I reckon. A lot of folks are talkin’ about him after all that.
His Time with the Dubuque Fighting Saints
Now, after his time with the NTDP, Powell moved on to the Dubuque Fighting Saints in the USHL. That’s a competitive league, with a lot of pressure to perform, but Seamus didn’t let that slow him down none. He spent a lot of his time last season gettin’ better and better. I heard tell he once scored three goals in a game, though his team still lost 5-4. But that ain’t always the way it goes, is it? Sometimes a player gotta work hard even when things ain’t goin’ perfect.
In that season with the Fighting Saints, Powell really proved he’s got the chops. He played in a good handful of games and showed he can handle the tough games, even when they’re hard on him. Ain’t that what hockey’s all about? Giving it your all, no matter the score at the end of the day?
Before Merrimack: A Look at His College Career
Before joining Merrimack, Seamus also spent a little time playin’ for Boston College in the 2022-2023 season. In them 21 games, he held his ground, bringin’ his defense skills to the ice for a team that’s well known in the college leagues. It wasn’t easy, though, with all the competition he had to face. But you know what they say, you ain’t gonna get better by sittin’ on the sidelines, you gotta get in there and fight for your spot.
And that’s exactly what Powell did—he fought. Every single day, on every single shift. It don’t matter where he plays, whether it’s the NTDP, the Dubuque Fighting Saints, or wherever, Seamus Powell’s gonna give it all he’s got. And if you ask me, that’s what makes him stand out. Some players may have more fancy moves or bigger stats, but I reckon it’s that grit and determination that sets Powell apart from the rest.
What’s Next for Seamus Powell?
So, where does that leave Seamus Powell now, you ask? Well, it seems like he’s makin’ a steady climb up the hockey ladder. He’s got a good head on his shoulders, and from what I hear, he’s workin’ hard to be a bigger name in the game. With the skills he’s shown already, I’d say there’s a bright future ahead for him. Whether he ends up in the NHL or somewhere else, it’s clear he’s a player who’ll be remembered for his effort and heart.
But one thing’s for sure, Seamus Powell ain’t stoppin’. He’s just gettin’ started, and if he keeps at it, we might be talkin’ ’bout him for a long time comin’.
