Okay, so let me tell you about my day messing around with this Shattuck St. Mary’s hockey thing. I’ve been hearing about this school forever, right? Always churning out top-tier players. They’ve got like, I don’t know, a zillion USA Hockey National Championships, and tons of these kids end up in the NHL.
So, I finally decided to dig in. First thing I did was just a basic search to get the lay of the land. Turns out, Shattuck-St. Mary’s isn’t just some random school. It’s been around since, like, the Civil War era – 1858! Started as an Episcopal mission school, and then they added a military academy, a girls’ school, even a school for younger kids. They didn’t even have a hockey thing until much later, I think they said 1974.
Anyway, I wanted to see what the fuss was about with their hockey program. I started poking around for info on their teams, especially the 18U Tier 1 team, because I saw somewhere they were ranked number one in the whole country. That’s nuts!
- First, I tried to figure out how many of these Shattuck kids actually make it to the pros.
- Then I got sidetracked reading about Brianna Decker. Apparently, she went there, and now she’s a big deal.
- After that, I spent a good chunk of time just scrolling through old tournament results. I wanted to see if Shattuck was always this dominant, or if it was a recent thing.
It was pretty cool to see how many of their alumni have gone on to play college hockey, and even in the NHL. They have about 47 former players in the NHL, and 115 have been picked in the draft. It’s seriously impressive.
Honestly, after spending all day on this, I get why people make such a big deal about Shattuck-St. Mary’s hockey. They’re not just good, they’re consistently producing top-level talent. It’s like a hockey factory over there!
I’m definitely going to keep an eye on them in the future. Maybe I’ll even try to catch a game sometime. It would be cool to see these future NHL stars in action before they make it big. I think this school is worth paying attention to!
