Alright, so I decided to make an England football hat. I’m not the craftiest person, but I figured, how hard could it be, right?
Getting Started
First, I gathered my materials. I went and got:
- A plain white baseball cap (you can get these anywhere, really)
- Some red fabric paint
- A paintbrush – I went for a medium-sized one, thinking it would give me good control
- A pencil
- A printout of the England three lions crest – sized to fit on the hat.
- Some cardboard to put in the hat to make a harder surface
The Painting Process
I started by placing a piece of cardboard to the inside of the hat.
Then, I lightly sketched the outline of the England crest onto the front of the hat with a pencil. I didn’t press too hard, just in case I messed up and needed to erase.
Then came the fun part – painting! I carefully painted the crest using the red fabric paint, and paint my sketched lines.I applied two coats, just to make sure the color was nice and vibrant, and left the first layer to dry before applying the second.
Drying and Finishing
After I finished painting, I left the hat to dry overnight. I wanted to be absolutely sure the paint was completely set before I did anything else with it. It is best to check the fabric paint instructions, and it suggests a day to fully dry.
The final touch: I checked the fabric paint instructions again, and then I set the paint to the hat.
And that’s it! My very own, slightly wonky, but definitely unique, England football hat. It’s not perfect, but I made it, and that’s what counts, right?
