Okay, so, today I wanted to talk about something I got into recently – this whole SMWC football thing. It’s been a wild ride, and I figured I’d share my experience, from knowing absolutely nothing to actually getting involved. If you’re curious, this might be interesting.
I first heard about it when I stumbled upon some info online. I read something like, “The Saint Mary-of-the-Woods College Sprint Football team will continue their 2024 campaign on Saturday.” To be honest, I had no idea what that even meant. But, it sounded cool, so I kept digging.
I started by, you know, Googling stuff like “basic football rules.” I found a few articles that were supposed to be for newbies, but they were still kinda confusing. One of them said, “Check out ten of the most important and basic football rules and regulations played in English soccer leagues.” And I was like, “English? What?” I mean, I thought football was American. Anyway.
Then, I came across this other thing that mentioned “Fantasy Football.” It said, “Simply put, Fantasy Football is a season-long competition where you draft your own team and compete with teams compiled by other people.” I actually kinda understood that. It’s like, you pick players and get points based on how they do in real life. Sounded like fun, but I wasn’t ready for that yet.
I went back to trying to understand the basics. I saw names like Lionel Messi, Cristiano Ronaldo, and Kylian Mbappe, who I have heard about being big names in soccer. I guess they’re famous football players, but I didn’t know which teams they played for or anything. Another website said it was a “guide to football positions, skills, famous players, referees, equipment.” That seemed like what I needed.
So, I started reading about the different positions, like quarterback, receiver, and all that. I watched some videos to see how the game is actually played. It took a while, but I started to get the hang of it. The rules, the scoring, the penalties – it all started to make a little more sense.
After a few days of this, I felt like I had a decent grasp of the basics. I wasn’t an expert, but I could watch a game and not be totally lost. I decided it was time to try this Fantasy Football thing. I joined a league with some friends, and we had a draft where we picked our players. It was a little overwhelming at first, but I used some of those beginner guides to help me make my picks.
Getting into the Game
The first few weeks of the season were a learning experience. I had to figure out which players were good, who to start each week, and how to make trades. I made some mistakes, sure, but I also had some successes. It was exciting to see my players score points and my team win some matchups. I even started watching more games on TV to keep up with my players and learn more about the strategies.
I’m still not a die-hard football fanatic, but I definitely enjoy it a lot more now than I did before. This whole SMWC thing got me interested, and now I’m hooked. It’s fun to have something new to follow and to have a little friendly competition with my friends.
My Advice for Newbies:
- Don’t be afraid to ask questions.
- Start with the basics and gradually learn more.
- Watch games and pay attention to what’s happening.
- Join a Fantasy Football league – it’s a great way to get involved.
- Most importantly, have fun!
So, that’s my story about getting into SMWC football. It’s been a fun and interesting journey, and I’m excited to see where it goes from here. If you’re thinking about getting into football, I say go for it! It’s a lot of fun, and you might just surprise yourself with how much you enjoy it.
