I finally got the chance to mess around with setting up some Stiga hockey players for a tabletop game I’ve been wanting to try out. It’s one of those things I’ve been putting off, but today was the day!
First, I had to find my old Stiga hockey set. It was buried in the closet under a pile of board games. I dusted off the box and opened it up, and luckily, all the pieces were still there.
The next thing I did was lay out the rink and start placing the players. I remembered reading somewhere that you could customize your teams, so I spent some time picking out the little plastic players and snapping them into their slots on the rods. I decided to go with a classic USA vs. Finland setup, just like in that one world junior hockey championship.
- Grabbed the USA team pack and popped those guys onto the rods on one side of the rink.
- Did the same with the Finland team pack on the other side.
- Made sure each player was securely in place so they wouldn’t go flying off during the game.
It was actually pretty fun setting everything up. I even found some old stickers and stuck them on the rink to make it look more official. It brought back memories of playing this game as a kid.
Getting Ready to Play
Once I had all the players in position, I took a step back to admire my handiwork. It looked pretty darn good if I do say so myself. I could almost hear the crowd cheering and the sound of skates on the ice.
I grabbed a buddy, and we each took a side. We flipped a coin to see who would go first, and then it was game on! We spent the next hour or so twisting and turning the rods, trying to outmaneuver each other and score some goals.
It was a blast! The game was way more fun than I remembered. We were both really getting into it, yelling and cheering like a couple of kids. In the end, I managed to pull off a win, but it was a close one. We’re already planning a rematch next weekend.
All in all, it was a great way to spend an afternoon. If you’ve got an old Stiga hockey game lying around, I highly recommend dusting it off and giving it a go. You might be surprised at how much fun you have!
