Okay, so I’ve been meaning to get back into tennis for a while now. I used to play a bit in college, nothing serious, but I always enjoyed it. I heard about this suburban tennis league and I thought it’d be a good way to get some exercise and meet some new people. So I decided to give it a shot.
Signing Up
First thing I did was, I checked if there was a league around here. Turns out, there is one called South Suburban, and they have these “in-house leagues” at a place called Littleton Golf and Tennis. I figured this was the place to start, so I found some contact information online and gave them a call.
The guy on the phone was pretty helpful. He told me about the different levels, beginner, intermediate, and advanced. I went with intermediate since I wasn’t a complete newbie, but I’m definitely a bit rusty.
Getting Ready
Before the league started, I knew I had to get some practice in. I didn’t want to embarrass myself out there! I remembered a coach once told me that hitting against a wall is a great way to practice solo. So, I found a wall at a local park and started hitting some forehands and backhands.
It felt good to swing a racket again, although my aim was a little off at first. I did that a few times a week, just to get the feel for it. I also watched some videos online to brush up on the basics – you know, grips, stances, that sort of thing. They have tons of information about understanding essential techniques.
League Play
Finally, the league started! I was a little nervous for the first match, not gonna lie. But everyone was really friendly and it was a pretty chill atmosphere. My first opponent was a guy named John.
We had a good match. I lost, but it was close. I realized I needed to work on my serve, it was way too slow. But my forehand felt pretty solid, thanks to all that wall practice, probably.
Keeping it Up
I’ve played a few more matches since then, and I’m really enjoying it. I’ve won some, lost some, but it’s all good. I’m definitely getting better with each match, and I’m actually starting to feel like a real tennis player again. Plus, I’ve met some cool people, which is a bonus.
I’m thinking of continuing with the league and maybe even getting some proper coaching. My goal is to get to the advanced level eventually. We’ll see how that goes! For now, I’m just happy to be back on the court and having fun.
Oh, and one more thing. I started slow, and I didn’t push myself too hard. I remembered what they say: Start Slow. It prevents injuries. And I’m glad I did. I feel great after every game.
So, yeah, that’s my suburban tennis league experience so far. It’s been a blast!
