Today, I wanna talk about something I got into recently – tennis at The College of New Jersey, or TCNJ for short. I’ve always been kinda active, but I wanted to pick up something new, you know? So, I started looking into what sports TCNJ offers, and tennis caught my eye.
First thing I did was check out the TCNJ Athletics website. I scrolled through the sports, and there it was, the men’s and women’s tennis teams. They’ve got this whole page with schedules, coaches’ info, and the team rosters for 2024-25. I saw they were doing pretty well, with the men’s team on a hot streak.
Then I dug a bit deeper and found out about the women’s team. Man, they’re something else! They just dominated the New Jersey Athletic Conference Tournament, winning their 41st title in a row. That’s some serious dedication right there. It got me thinking, “Maybe I should try to be like these guys?”
So, I looked up the TCNJ Club Tennis. Figured it’d be a good way to start without the pressure of being on the official team right away. The website was easy to find, and it had all the basics.
I also stumbled upon their Instagram, @tcnj_tennis. They post updates and player introductions. Recently they introduced the men’s tennis team, I saw some comments and likes, the guys seemed nice. They also have another account, @tcnjlions, where they celebrated six players for being selected as All-NJAC. I thought to myself, “Wow, these guys are good!”
- The women’s tennis team is super successful, like, historically good.
- TCNJ has a club tennis team, which seems like a chill way to get into the sport.
- The official teams have a strong presence on social media. I could tell by the likes, comments, and recent posts.
What I Learned
Honestly, I’m still figuring things out. I haven’t actually played a match at TCNJ yet. But checking out all this stuff online got me pretty pumped to try. I’m thinking of joining the club team, attending some matches, and maybe even trying out for the official team someday if I get good enough.
It’s cool to see how active the tennis scene is at TCNJ. From what I’ve seen, the school really supports their athletes. I’ve read a bit about the school’s overall vibe, and it seems like academics are the main focus, but sports, especially tennis, are a big deal too. They’ve had 39 All-American players, 35 NCAA appearances, and 26 NJAC players of the year. That’s amazing. I also heard about their Women’s Lacrosse and Field Hockey teams being the most successful, winning a lot of championships. I guess that’s for another day.
Anyway, that’s my little adventure into the world of TCNJ tennis so far. I’ll keep you guys posted on how it goes. Maybe next time, I’ll have some actual match stories to share! I started to practice recently, and it was kinda fun. I hope I can keep up with it.
