Okay, so I’ve been meaning to get a blog going about my beer league hockey team, the “Ice Hogs.” We’re not exactly NHL material, but we have a blast, and I figured, why not document our, uh, “journey”?
First thing I did was pick a platform.I’m pretty used to it, and it’s free, so that’s a win. Setting it up was straightforward, I created new account.
Choosing a Theme (This Took a While)
Next up was picking a theme. Man, this took longer than I expected. There are SO many options. I wanted something clean, easy to read, and maybe with a bit of a sporty vibe, but not too over the top. I finally settled on one that was simple, with a nice big header image where I could put a picture of the team.
The First Post: Game Recap!
The first actual post was a recap of our last game. We lost, 6-3, but it was a pretty good game, all things considered. I tried to make it funny, you know? Like, talking about how I almost scored but then tripped over the blue line. Classic me.
Here’s how I structured the post:
- Intro: Just a quick intro about the game and the general vibe.
- The Good: Highlighted a couple of good plays, even if they didn’t result in goals. Gotta stay positive, right?
- The Bad: Oh yeah, there was plenty of this. Our goalie had a rough night, and I think I spent more time on my butt than on my skates.
- The Ugly: That one time their guy got a breakaway and totally deked our defensemen… yeah, that was ugly.
- Final Thoughts: Wrapped it up with some “looking forward to the next game” type stuff.
Adding Some Pictures (and a Video!)
I also threw in a few pictures. One of the team before the game, all looking tough and ready to go (before we got crushed, that is). And another one of our goalie making a pretty sweet save (gotta give him some credit!).
I even managed to embed a short video clip! It’s just a few seconds of one of our guys actually scoring a goal. Pretty exciting stuff, I tell ya.
Sharing It Out
After I posted it, I shared it with the team on our group chat. They got a good laugh out of it, which was the whole point. A few of them even said they’d contribute some content, maybe write about their “perspective” on the games. We’ll see how that goes.
For next post,I have to record something about our team member, may be I could share something I’m good at.I’m also looking for some good background music, just in case I have some videos in the future post.
So, yeah, that’s the start of my “bc hockey blog” adventure. It’s pretty basic so far, but it’s fun, and it’s a good way to keep track of our games and, you know, make fun of ourselves a little bit. It ain’t pretty, but it’s hockey.
