Okay, so, let me tell you about this whole Gilmour Academy hockey tournament thing I got involved with recently. It all started when I decided I wanted to get a better look at some of these young hockey players.
First off, I did some digging online to find out when and where it was happening. Turns out, it’s at the Floyd E. Stefanski Ice Center. I found the schedule and saw a bunch of teams were playing, like the Maine Nordiques 16U and the Fort Erie Int. Academy 17U. There was also a game scheduled between Gilmour 16U Tier 1 and Fort Erie International Academy. It looked like a pretty big deal.
I managed to get down to the arena. It was buzzing with energy, parents yelling, coaches shouting – you know, the usual hockey tournament vibe. I found a spot near the rink where I could see all the action.
- Checked the schedule board to confirm game times.
- Watched some of the warm-ups, trying to get a feel for the teams’ styles.
- Took notes on some of the standout players, who was fast, who had good hands, that sort of thing.
I ended up watching a few games. Man, these kids are intense! The speed, the hits, the shots – it was all happening so fast. It was also interesting to see the Nichols-Belmont Hill Holiday Hockey Tournament mentioned as coming in December. That’s another one to keep an eye on.
The big thing I heard was about the Gilmour Academy Varsity A team winning the OHSAA state championship. That’s huge! People were talking about it all over the place. Sounds like they really earned it.
Then, I stumbled upon some info about running the scoreboard at the arena. Apparently, for every away game, the team only needs one person to run the penalty box. I guess that makes sense, keeps things simple. I saw some folks sharing the schedule on social media, too, so I guess it’s a big community thing.
By the end of the day, I felt like I had a pretty good grasp of what this tournament was all about. It was cool to see so many young athletes giving it their all on the ice. It was also a good way to scope out some potential future stars. After I watched all the matches, I went back and check some players’ information and watched some replays to make sure I did not miss any details.
