Okay, so I’ve been diving deep into the world of Ohio high school basketball lately, and let me tell you, it’s been a wild ride! I started out just wanting to figure out who the best players of all time were, but it turned into a full-blown project. I mean, there are so many amazing athletes who’ve come out of Ohio, it’s insane.
Getting Started
First, I started by making a huge list of names. I combed through old newspaper articles, scoured online forums, and even talked to some old-timers who’ve been following the sport for decades. It was like being a detective, piecing together clues from different eras.
Digging Deeper
Then came the tough part – narrowing it down. I decided to focus on a few key things:
- Stats: Points per game, rebounds, assists – the whole nine yards. This was pretty straightforward, though some older records were a bit spotty.
- Accolades: All-State selections, Mr. Basketball awards, stuff like that. These helped show who was really recognized as top-tier during their time.
- Impact: This one was a bit trickier, but I tried to gauge how much a player impacted their team and the game overall. Did they lead their team to championships? Did they change the way the game was played?
Building My List
After many hours of research, I started building my list. I argued with myself a lot, that’s for sure. Putting together any “best of” is tough because there are always so many factors to consider, but building a list of the best high school athletes is even tougher because they are so young and their careers are just beginning.
I jotted down names, crossed them out, added new ones, and rearranged the order countless times. It was a mess, but a fun mess!
The Final Product
Finally, after weeks of work, I had a list that I felt pretty good about. It’s not perfect, and I’m sure some people will disagree with my choices, but that’s part of the fun. It sparked some great conversations with other basketball fans, and that’s what it’s all about. It was a heck of a journey, and I learned a ton about the history of Ohio high school basketball along the way. It really made me appreciate the talent that’s come out of this state. It’s a reminder of how much passion and dedication these young athletes put into the game.
