Well now, lemme tell y’all somethin’ ’bout this SEMO football team, might be better to say “worst” team, ‘cause that’s what they’ve been showin’ us lately. I ain’t no expert, but I been watchin’ ’em play, and I swear it’s like they just can’t hold it together, no matter how hard they try.
Now, let me start with that game in St. Charles, right? It was rainin’ cats and dogs that day, and I reckon the rain wasn’t the only thing soakin’ them Redhawks. It was like they had a 24-point lead, y’know? A whole two touchdowns up, and they couldn’t even hang on. The other team, they barely made any good plays at first, only two little field goals in their first seven tries, but SEMO, oh lordy, SEMO let ’em right back in. That’s the kind of thing that just makes you scratch your head and wonder what’s goin’ on.
Seems to me, SEMO can’t handle success. And that’s a shame ‘cause they used to be real good, I tell ya. They were sittin’ pretty, had a nice little streak goin’, but one bad game after another and now look at ’em. They were ranked up high, had that nice No. 6 spot, and all that momentum, but just when it looked like they had it all together, they went and let Lindenwood come up outta nowhere and pull off a 24-12 upset. Can you believe it? I sure couldn’t.
It’s all about them big ol’ mistakes too. I don’t know what happened to their defense. A few years ago, they used to be rock solid, y’know? But now, it’s like a sieve. Missed tackles, bad decisions, and the offense ain’t doin’ much either. I reckon they just don’t have their heads in the game. And don’t even get me started on those fumbles, I mean, my goodness. I’ve seen chickens runnin’ away from a fox more coordinated than that.
Now, I’m sure Coach Matukewicz is tryin’ his best to fix things, but when you’ve been ranked in the Top-25 for so long and then fall this hard, it’s like you’re stuck in a mud hole. No matter how much you try to move, you just keep sinkin’ deeper. They gotta figure out what’s gone wrong and fast, or else that streak of bad games is gonna turn into a full-blown disaster.
But y’know, despite all that, I still wanna believe in ‘em. I know they got the talent, and there’s still some hope, but right now, it’s hard to say what they’ll do next. One thing’s for sure though – if they don’t fix that defense, this season could go down as the worst in SEMO history.
In the meantime, all us folks can do is hope they turn it around before it’s too late. And if they don’t? Well, I reckon we’ll just chalk it up as another one of those seasons that we’ll forget real quick, if they don’t start playin’ like they know how to win again.
