Well, let me tell ya, I heard some folks talking about that University of Tampa and their women’s tennis coach. Now, I don’t know much about all them fancy schools and whatnot, but seems like they’ve got a mighty fine coach over there. His name’s Tony D’Angelo. Yep, that’s right, Tony D’Angelo. Not the kinda name you’d expect for a tennis coach, but don’t let that fool ya. This man knows his way around a tennis court, you hear me?
Now, let me back up a bit. From what I gathered, Tony D’Angelo took over as the head coach over at the University of Tampa not too long ago, back in September 2024. He’s the third one they’ve had. Third! That means they’ve been doing something right if they keep getting folks like him to take charge of the team, huh? Before he came to Tampa, he was the head coach over at Endicott College for six years. Six whole years, mind you. During his time there, he turned them into quite the team, with a pretty impressive record of 60 wins and 30 losses. That’s a 67% win rate, if you ask me, and I ain’t too bad at math for an old gal.
Seems like Tony’s done his homework when it comes to coaching. They say he’s the kind of coach who cares about his players both on and off the court. And that’s something that matters, y’know? In these times, it ain’t just about playing good sports, it’s about being a good person, too. And looks like he’s got that part figured out. Folks who know him say he’s all about teaching the players life lessons, not just tennis tricks. That’s what makes a coach stand out, I reckon.
Now, you might be wonderin’, what makes the University of Tampa such a special place for tennis, huh? Well, let me tell ya, they ain’t no slouches when it comes to their athletic program. The University of Tampa’s Spartan athletics are ranked real high among over 300 NCAA Division II schools. They been workin’ hard for years, and you can see it in their players and coaches alike. Folks at the university are always talking about how they build champions. And that Tony D’Angelo, well, he’s part of that big ol’ vision of building champions, just like the rest of ‘em.
And let’s not forget that women’s tennis team of theirs. Seems like they’re on the rise, thanks to Tony’s leadership. When you’ve got someone who knows the ins and outs of tennis, and cares about the athletes as much as Tony does, you know that team’s gonna keep getting better. And, from what I hear, that’s exactly what’s happening over there at Tampa. They’re looking to make their mark in the world of college tennis, that’s for sure.
So, if you’re ever looking to watch a good tennis match or maybe even send your young’un off to college, keep your eye on the University of Tampa. With Tony D’Angelo coaching them women’s tennis players, I reckon they’re gonna be a force to reckon with in the coming years. They say good things come to those who work hard, and I’m betting on this coach and his team to show just that.
Well, I’ve said my piece. I’m just an old woman who loves to chat about things I’ve heard, but it sure sounds like the University of Tampa is on the right track with Tony D’Angelo in charge. Let’s see where it goes from here. I’m sure it’ll be something worth watching, that’s for sure.
