Okay, so the other day I saw this older guy using a walker, but he had tennis balls on the bottom of the legs. It got me thinking, maybe that’s a good idea for my grandma. So, I decided to try it out myself.
Getting Started
First, I grabbed an old walker we had lying around in the garage. It was pretty dusty, so I wiped it down with a damp cloth. Then, I went to the store and picked up a can of tennis balls – the bright yellow ones, so they’d be easy to see.
The Process
Getting the balls onto the walker legs was a bit trickier than I thought. I realized I needed to cut a slit in each ball first. I used a box cutter, being super careful not to cut myself. I made a simple “X” shape on each ball.
Next, I tried to push the balls onto the walker legs. This took some serious elbow grease! I wiggled and pushed and finally got them all on. It was a bit of a workout, to be honest.
Testing it Out
Once all four balls were on, I tested the walker out. I pushed it around on the carpet, the hardwood floor, and even outside on the sidewalk. It definitely made the walker glide smoother, especially on the carpet. It also seemed a bit quieter than before, which is a plus.
- Easier to move on carpets
- Smoother gliding
- Quieter than before
It also felt it made walker easier to turn around. Overall, I think it’s a pretty neat trick! My grandma should be able to move much more easily with the tennis balls.
