Okay, folks, let’s dive into my little adventure with Venezuelan Superliga Basketball data.
My Little Project Begins
So, I’ve been trying to get my hands on some decent basketball stats lately, something beyond the usual NBA stuff. I stumbled upon the Venezuelan Superliga and thought, “Why not?” It’s a different league, different players, and frankly, I was curious.
I started by just, you know, Googling around. “Venezuelan Superliga Basketball stats,” “Venezuelan basketball data,” things like that. I needed to know what it will be like, I want to know everthing about it.
Digging Through the Data
Honestly, finding readily available, well-organized data was tougher than I expected. It wasn’t like the NBA where you have websites popping up everywhere with every stat imaginable. It was way more difficult to find the data source.
I tried some general sports data sites, but the Superliga wasn’t always covered in detail, I had no idea why it was that difficult.
The Workaround
After I tried to search the data by the most direct way, I failed. So I began to think another way, so I tried to change some keywords, searched some players, and found out some forum, some discussion about the Basketball.
I manually grabbed some stuff – game scores, player names, basic box score info – and started throwing it into a simple spreadsheet.
I’m not gonna lie, it was a bit tedious. It wasn’t some fancy automated process. It was me, my browser, and a lot of copy-pasting. But I was slowly building something. I was determined to keep digging until I found some usable data, no matter how long it would take.
What I’ve Got So Far
Right now, my “database” is pretty basic. I have:
- Game Results: Who won, who lost, and the final score.
- Some Player Stats: Points, maybe rebounds and assists if I was lucky.
- Team Names: Obviously.
It’s not perfect, it’s not comprehensive, but it’s a start. It’s something I can play around with and maybe draw some simple conclusions from. At least, I have some basic conclusions.
Next steps
Of course, I need to keep digging. I need to change the way I search for the imformation.I’d love to get more detailed stats, like shooting percentages, turnovers, that kind of stuff. And ideally, I’d like to find a way to make this whole process less manual. I also learned that there’s always a way, even if it’s not the most straightforward one.
