Okay, here is my sharing about playing platform tennis today.
So, I finally got around to trying out that “nj platform tennis” thing today. I’ve been seeing people talk about it online, and a buddy of mine was like, “Dude, you gotta try this.” So, I figured, why not?
First off, finding a place to play was a bit of a mission. I looked up the New Jersey Men’s Platform Tennis League because that seemed like the main organization. I checked out their website to see about their events and activities.
They mentioned something about a “Fall 2020 registration” being open. I guess I missed that boat, but it’s good to know for next time. They also said something about registering on a waitlist, and then you get notified if you’re in the tournament. Oh, and you apparently need to have played in at least two matches in the Fall league to play in their “Classic” tournament. Sounds a bit exclusive, but hey, I’m always up for a challenge.
I also heard that team platform tennis is a great way to test my skills and meet other players. It’s like, you compete against other clubs in the area, which sounds pretty cool. I ended up going to a local court in Morristown. I asked around, and it turns out there’s a whole community of platform tennis players there. Who knew?
Here’s how my day went:
- Warming Up: Showed up at the court, did some stretches, and smacked the ball around a bit. Felt good to get moving.
- Playing Some Games: Got into a few doubles matches. The pace is way faster than I expected! The ball really zips around, and you gotta be quick on your feet.
- Learning the Ropes: Tried to pick up some tips from the more experienced players. They were cool about sharing some pointers on strategy and technique.
- Getting Competitive: Started to get the hang of it and even won a few games. It’s definitely a competitive sport, but everyone was pretty chill.
I saw some recent news about the “NJ Men’s League Classic.” Apparently, the winners were Mikk Irdoja and Evan Zimmer, and the finalists were Chris Humphreys and Mike Stulac. They won 6-1, which is pretty impressive. It’s cool to see who the top players are. Gives me something to aim for, you know?
At the end of the day, I was pretty beat but in a good way. It was a solid workout, and I met some cool people. I can see why folks are into this sport. It’s fast-paced, social, and a good way to stay active.
I’m definitely going to keep playing. Maybe I’ll even try to get into that “Classic” tournament next year. We’ll see. Anyway, if you’re in Jersey and looking for a new sport to try, give platform tennis a shot. It’s a good time.
