So, I wanted to get back into tennis, you know, just casually. I heard about the Waveland Park Tennis Courts and figured I’d give them a shot. The place is at 3920 N Recreation Dr, Chicago. Sounds simple enough, right?
First things first, I had to figure out how to book a court. Turns out, there’s this thing online where you can reserve a court. It’s like a calendar, and you just click on a time slot. I looked at the calendar and saw some open slots for the next day. It’s a pretty neat system, not gonna lie.

- Selected my preferred time.
Once I had my court booked, I started thinking about who I could play with. I remembered there’s this feature where you can invite other players. I didn’t end up using it this time, but it’s good to know it’s there. Maybe next time I’ll try to gather a group and make a day of it.
Getting to the courts was pretty straightforward. I just followed the directions I found online, and there it was. The courts looked decent, nothing fancy, but definitely playable. I saw a few folks already playing, and the vibe was pretty chill. I warmed up a bit, practiced my serve, which, let me tell you, needs some serious work.
I ended up just hitting the ball around by myself for a while. It was pretty relaxing, just me, the ball, and the court. The weather was nice, a bit sunny, perfect for a lazy afternoon of tennis.
I did notice there were these groups like “ChiTownTennis” and “TennisPhoenix” that use the courts. Looks like they’re part of some local leagues. I might check them out later, could be fun to join and play some more organized games. They seem like community things, which is cool.
Anyway, after a couple of hours, I called it a day. It was a good experience overall. The courts are easy to book, the place is accessible, and the atmosphere is relaxed. I’ll definitely be back. Maybe next time I’ll actually find someone to play with, or maybe I’ll just enjoy the solitude again. We’ll see.
