Okay, so today was a bit weird. Felt this urge to get back on the tennis court. It’s been ages, honestly. My trusty racket was gathering dust like nobody’s business. Wasn’t really feeling the usual drills, wanted something… different. Remembered this old set of notes I scribbled down years ago, something about a ‘C. Romeo’ approach to practice. No idea where I even got it from, maybe some obscure forum or a half-forgotten coach’s tip.
So, I dug out my gear. Found my shoes, thankfully they still fit. The racket needed a quick wipe-down. Grabbed a few balls, the ones that weren’t completely flat, you know? Didn’t bother with fancy clothes, just threw on an old t-shirt and shorts. Headed down to the local courts. They were pretty empty, which was nice. Less pressure, right?
Trying Out This ‘C. Romeo’ Thing
Alright, got on the court. The notes I had were kinda vague. Talked a lot about rhythm and using the whole body, less about brute force. Specifically for serves. Called it the ‘C. Romeo serve drill’ in my notes, probably my own name for it.
Basically, it involved stuff like:
- Starting super slow, almost like slow-motion.
- Focusing hard on the ball toss consistency. That was tough. My toss was all over the place.
- Trying to feel the energy transfer from the ground up, through the legs and core, not just arming it.
- Making a weird ‘whoosh’ sound on the follow-through. Felt ridiculous doing that, gotta admit. Wonder if anyone heard me.
Spent a good hour just on this. Felt really awkward at first. Like learning to walk again. Hit more balls into the net than I care to count. Frame hits galore. But, strangely, after a while, something clicked. A couple of serves actually felt… smooth. Effortless, almost. Not powerful, mind you, but smooth. It was more about timing than anything else.
So, What’s the Verdict?
Look, I’m not suddenly gonna win Wimbledon or anything. My serve is still pretty rubbish overall. But this C. Romeo thing, whatever it actually is or wherever it came from, was interesting. It forced me to slow down and think about the process instead of just whacking the ball.
Felt good to be out there, moving around. Even if I looked like a complete beginner again (which, let’s be honest, I kinda am now). It wasn’t about performance today, more about just… doing it. Trying something different. Connecting with the basics in a way I hadn’t before. Might try it again, maybe ignore the ‘whoosh’ sound next time though. Felt pretty silly doing that.
Yeah, a decent morning’s effort. Back to reality now.
